Hi! I’m Denise. I grew up in Janesville, IA. I didn’t grow
up in a Christian family, but I remember my mom trying to be such a good
person. And she was a great Mom! It’s just that her priorities were
on how we should act when other people were watching instead of on changing
the attitude of our hearts. Now I know it is impossible to change the
attitude of our hearts without a divine Savior to help us.
About this time of my life my sis and I were invited to go to Bible School
with our neighbors. It was some time later at camp that I realized it
was my sins that were separating me from God. I knew, even as a child,
that I had stolen, cheated at school, and lied to my parents. I prayed
to ask God to forgive me and to take control of my life! I have since
found the Bible to be relevant to my everyday life.
In II Corinthians 5:17 it says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a
new creation; the old (self) has gone, the new has come!” That doesn’t
mean my life is perfect, but…
It’s because of Jesus alone that I can find any meaning in life’s
difficult circumstances! He even promises to give us the faith to see
and make possibilities out of our pain!
My husband and I came to Trinity because we needed to commit to a church
where the pastors thoroughly study and teach the Bible, where there was
an active youth program (Genesis), and meaningful Bible studies.
We are encouraged by our Adult
Bible Fellowship (ABF). Our ABF leaders keep the time relevant and
lively. That’s also where we informally get to know each other and
are encouraged to get into a Life
Group, which is a small group ministry within the FaithBuilders
ABF where we can grow deeper in our relationship with Christ and one
another.
Romans 15:5-6 says, “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement
give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ, so that
with one heart and mouth you may glorify God.”
