Our vision: To help teens become joyous and passionate followers of Jesus

How we get there:

Adult Leaders

Tempa Haines
Aka “The Tempanator”
Interim Youth Director

TempaAs Interim Youth Director, Tempa gladly welcomes the opportunity to invest in the lives of the students of Genesis. Having come to know the Lord herself as a teen, she is excited to be a part of such an important time in their lives! Tempa grew up all around the Midwest and has been blessed with many international travel opportunities. This has given her ample opportunity to sharpen her interpersonal skills… which might be why she loves meeting new people. She talks a lot (but laughs more) and, just as a true extrovert should, she is energized and refreshed by the presence of the people she loves. Tempa wore pink Nikes to her senior prom (they matched her dress perfectly!) and owns far more stuffed monkeys than any adult should own.  At the end of the day, she feels much better about herself when her kitchen is clean.  She thinks wind turbines are creepy, mismatched socks gross her out, and Extreme Makeover Home Edition makes her cry…every time.  Some of her other favorite things include singing, playing Scrabble, Diet Coke, good conversation, and the zoo.  Above all else, Tempa is excited to be a part of the ministry at Trinity and looks forward to watching the youth make life-changing decisions as they grow closer to Christ.

CarolineCaroline Keiser

Caroline is a mother of three, two of her children are in the Genesis Ministry and one is involved with Awana here at Trinity.  She was involved with the youth group at Trinity when she was a teen and Pastor John was the youth pastor.  You will usually find her running her household (or more accurately, running them all over town) or volunteering at church, schools, and other local organizations.   She enjoys finding greeting cards and coffee mugs that make her laugh aloud and her ‘super power’ is being able to wiggle her ears.

Tyler Owen

TylerTyler Owen leads our worship time on Wednesday nights.  As a husband to Jamie and father to Kepa, Tyler enjoys spending time with his family. Playing the guitar, wearing belts backwards, playing disc golf are some of his favorite things. He and his wife are both passionately involved with the Young Life ministry in the Cedar Valley. Tyler loves Wednesdays and has a dog that is better with a Frisbee than most of his friends.

MikeMike Runge

Mike is a member of our Genesis worship team. He teaches math at Valley Lutheran High School and is planning to wed his beautiful bride, Liz, in November of 2010. Playing guitar and softball fill his extra time. The origin of his passion for youth ministry is a long story, but he would love to tell you if you ask him. He loves being able to share in the faith journeys of the teens at Genesis.

Genesis Ministries

Wednesday Night Youth Service
What?: Teens from different schools in and around the Cedar Valley come together for a time of fun and fellowship. A “typical” Wednesday night includes games, food, live worship, a message from God’s Word and small group discussion time.

Why?!: To help students become fully-devoted , passionate followers of Christ by connecting with other students (and adults!) who desire to grow in their knowledge of the Lord.

Where and When?!: We meet in the church basement at 125 Orchard Drive, Cedar Falls, from 6:30-8:00pm. Look for the outside door that says Genesis. Open it. Once inside, head downstairs.

Amigo Night-Bring Your Friends
The last Wednesday of the month during the school year we want you to bring your friends to Genesis. We serve up dinner Mexican style, play a fun group game and hear from an awesome speaker.

Sunday Morning
Teens meet in the church basement from 9:45-10:45 (during the school year) for food, fun and learning. Topics for discussion have included aspects of God’s character, money, dating, witnessing, prayer, and other subjects geared to help teens live Godly lives that will impact their world for Christ.

Bible Studies in small group
We offer small group Bible studies throughout the school year and summer led by various people, some teens, some adults.  Some studies we’ve led in the past are Truth Project www.truthproject.com, Love Sex, and Lasting Relationships by chip Ingram www.lote.org,   Growing in Christ www.navpress.org, and Growing Discipleship Series.

Cedar Springs Camp
Located in the “metropolis” of Floyd, Ia, Cedar Springs Wesleyan Camp is always a life changing time for many. Planned with the needs and interests of teens in mind, our goal is to help them take the next step with God. www.cedarspringscamp.org  Check out you tube and take a look at our camp videos.

You can register on-line or pick up a registration form at Trinity Bible Church during regular office hours.

Missions
We desire to develop a heart for the nations in your teens. One way we accomplish this is by taking missions trips overseas or doing service projects state side. Summer 2009 we sent 6 teens with a missions organization called Reign Ministries/Royal Servants.  This was our first experience with them.  We are very pleased. Check them out www.reignministries.org

Retreats
These are usually weekend or spring break getaways that include fun, spiritual growth and sometimes work (gasp!)

Special Events
Every couple of years the Wesleyan Denomination has a youth conference. In addition to this event we plan other big events that include but certainly not limited to ski trips, smaller conferences, guy’s weekend, and girls’ weekend

Teen Ministry Team (T.M.T.)
The Teen Ministry Team is a group of teens put together because they desire to become a joyous and passionate follower of Christ.  The group consists of  our high school students who come together to pray, learn, and plan ministry events that will impact their peers, their community and their world. Teens must fill out an application to become part of this team. Talk to Pastor Mark if you are interested in being a part of this team.

Great Books
These are my favorite books that have helped me grow closer to God  - Pastor Mark

The Bible
This is the best book that you could ever read if you desire to know God more and follow Him.  If you read one book off this list, I hope it is the Bible.  Start with the book of John.  You can find it in the New Testament.  The New Testament starts with the book of Matthew, then Mark, then Luke, and then John.
